Our relationships with the wider community are highly valued by students and staff.
2/14th Australian Field Regiment
In 2007 the school formed a partnership with the 2/14th Australian Field Regiment through the Adopt An Ex-Service Organisation Program, administered by the Shrine of Remembrance. Each year our Year 6 students have opportunities to experience the traditions surrounding commemoration and remembrance, to reflect upon the importance of peace, to develop historical knowledge and understanding and to form relationships with our veterans and their families.
In February a small group of students, family members and staff attend the Anniversary of the Bombing of Darwin Commemoration to represent the 2/14th Australian Field Regiment which had been active in Darwin during the bombing raids. Students took part in the Anzac Day march and the moving service held afterwards at the designated 2/14th Australian Field Regiment tree by the Shrine of Remembrance.
The relationship between Christ Church Grammar School, veterans and their families is special and valued by all concerned.
Indigenous Australian Perspectives
National Reconciliation Week is marked with involvement in a range of events at school and in the wider community. The Reconciliation Chapel Service was a culmination of our whole school focus on aspects of storytelling and sustainability, particularly through the exploration of the traditional story, Friends continued their generous support for our programs including the partnership with Red Dust Role Models, enabling Year 6 students to visit Areyonga.
The Reconciliation Interest Group is instrumental in generating many opportunities throughout the year for the school to reflect upon reconciliation, to build relationships and increase knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and histories. The group includes Student Representative Council leaders, staff, parents, Father Richard, Mother Linda and Darren Smith from Red Dust. Staff have also supported various events.
Every year, the community of Christ Church Grammar School together select a charity for our fundraising focus.
