Languages Other than English
About our language program
The language program at Christ Church Grammar School focuses on igniting students' interest and developing students’ capability and skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing. Topics focus on their interests and life surroundings. Students learn the language and culture through various activities, such as songs, rhymes, stories, role play, and visual aids including Interactive Communication Technology.
Students in Years 4 - 6 choose between studies in either Chinese or Italian and will follow this language through to the completion of Year 6. Children in Prep - Year 3 are offered studies in Chinese or French and will also follow this language through to Year 6. Children in Prep - Year 3 also have the option to learn Italian through an Italian Club during lunchtime one day per week.
Children in our 4 Year Old Program may choose to learn French as a cocurricular activity. This option will incur a fee as it forms part of the cocurricular program.
Children in Years 2 - 6 also have the opportunity to join French Breakfast Club for some conversational French over a croissant and hot chocolate one morning per week. French as a cocurricular activity is also offered after school.
Chinese calligraphic writing is introduced from Year 2 onwards.
