Welcome to Christ Church Grammar School’s website.

Christ Church Grammar School (CCGS) is a unique and vibrant community with a rich history and a forward-thinking approach to education. Founded in 1898 to serve the educational needs of the Christ Church Boys Choir, we are proud to be one of only a few independent stand-alone primary schools in the state and the only one in the inner south of Melbourne. Over the years, we have grown, yet our commitment to nurturing each child remains at the heart of everything we do.

At CCGS, we pride ourselves on providing a learning experience that is both academically rigorous and emotionally enriching. Our educational philosophy ensures that children are equipped with the foundational skills of literacy and numeracy, setting them up for success not only in the next stages of their schooling but also in life beyond. Our learning model focuses on striking a balance between explicit teaching and interdisciplinary approaches, ensuring that our students not only master core academic skills but also develop critical thinking, creativity and a love for learning through hands-on, real-life experiences. Knowing each child well means that we are able to tailor our teaching to suit the unique needs of each student, ensuring they thrive both academically and socially.

A hallmark of Christ Church Grammar School is the strong sense of community. Our children, staff and families share a common goal: to create a warm and welcoming environment where every child feels safe, supported and valued. Through our deep connection with Christ Church South Yarra, we’ve built pastoral care programs grounded in trust, empathy and respect. These programs play an integral role in developing emotional intelligence and fostering resilience, so our students are not only ready for the next academic challenge but also well-prepared for the complexities of the world around them.

As the new Principal of CCGS, I am both honoured and excited to lead the school into its next chapter. I bring with me a deep passion for education and a broad range of leadership experience. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working across various sectors of education, both locally and internationally. From my time as Chair of Mathematics at the American Overseas School of Rome (Italy), Deputy Head of ELC and Junior School at Toorak College to my role as Head of Junior School at Firbank Grammar and, more recently, as Principal of Mount Eliza Primary School, I have led schools through significant periods of growth and transformation. These experiences have allowed me to develop a comprehensive skill set, which I bring with me to Christ Church Grammar School.

I am also passionate about the Arts, particularly music, having spent many years performing as a professional singer in both Australia and Europe. Whilst we celebrate and promote a holistic education at CCGS, our students are well-known for their amazing singing and musical expertise; hearing them perform is a memorable experience!

We are a school where children come first, and where families are actively involved in shaping our community. I invite you to spend some time exploring our website to learn more about our unique school, and better still, I encourage you to book a personal tour to see firsthand the exceptional educational experiences we offer.

We look forward to meeting you and welcoming you into the Christ Church Grammar School family.

Kind regards,

Kim Wheeler

Principal
